Set Office Hours
by Paul Lasher
Running a home business is very rewarding but it can be very tricky at
times to juggle work with home life situations; especially if you have
kids. When working at home, you are susceptible to a lot more
interruptions and distractions then if you were at the office. Thus,
it’s very important that you be able set aside time to get your work
done.
I highly recommend that you set office hours. You know the concept;
like the 8am to 5pm or 9am to 6pm hours that you have to put in while
you work at job. A home based business offers you great flexibility
with your work hours. If you wanted, you could work from 8am to 10am
and then from 8pm to 10pm or from 6am to 10am then take the rest of
the day off. Your work hours are totally up to you!
Whatever you decide are you office hours; make sure you stick to them
and limit the amount interruptions and distractions during that time
period. Ex. no TV, no radio, no personal phone calls, no
non-business related web surfing, no extended breaks, etc...
I also recommend that you make your “office hours” known to your
family. Make sure they understand that you can’t be disturbed during
these hours unless there is a major emergency. You can even place
your office hours on the door to your office as a constant reminder to
family members.
By setting “office hours” you will be able to minimize your
interruptions and distractions so that you can efficiently use that
time to work your home business. Remember to treat your home
business like a multi-million dollar business. Don't let
interruptions and distractions take away from your business. Stay
focused.
In my next article I will be
discussing what you should be spending most of your time doing for
your home based business.
