Avoid
Internet Business SCAMs
There
are just as many SCAMs on the Internet as there is business
ideas. The most popular I see is "I Guarantee To Make You
Rich In 5 Weeks or Your Money Back" Most of them will honor
the guarantee if you follow their guidelines. The guarantee
works because most people never complete all of the steps necessary
to get the refund or get rich. Many of those that do just don't
bother asking for a refund. Its what they call bean counting.
They can sell more non refund orders than they do the ones that
ask for the refund due to failure. If it were so easy then why
is everyone in the world not rich.
Another
big SCAM is e-mail hoax. I get four or five e-mails a day asking
for for me to accept millions of dollars in the name of some
corporation or bank. They are getting better with the wording
also. The latest ones I have gotten are from some bank executive
at some Swiss bank claiming the money is legal and legitimate.
All they need is my account info to transfer the money out of
their country to mine.
There
must be people feeding this industry pretty good because it
seems to be growing instead of disappearing. I would imagine
they have millions of dollars but you will never see a dime
of it. Their money comes from innocent people whom think they
will get rich quick.
Another
a couple of weeks ago came across my desk by accident. I got
a SPAM mail from some one. Normally I do not answer them but
this one made me mad because they tricked me into opening the
e-mail under false pretenses. I sent them back a reply that
they should look at getting web site traffic with search engine
optimization instead of wasting time and effort on e-mails that
just make people mad. A few days later I got another e-mail
apologizing for the first and asking how much I would charge
for my service. I thought I had a potential customer. I went
out and started evaluating his sites existing position with
the search engines. I could not find it. I then went deeper
and started looking for his product. That is when I found that
this was a company that was making a second try on the Internet
with their cell phone resell product. It was a SCAM and I had
considered representing them, until I researched the company.
I
can not guarantee you that you will never fall subject to a
SCAM but if you follow these simple steps it will remove most
possibilities.
- Search
the Internet for the company If they are not listed it is
good to avoid them.
- Search
the internet for the product they are offering and see who
else offers it.
- Go
to Register.com and do a whois search on the web site address.
See how long they have been on the internet. I would reasonably
trust any company more than 2 years old.
- Contact
them by phone and get a street address.
- Contact
the better business bureau and make sure they are not black
listed. The majority of Internet company's will not be listed
with the BBB at all, that's OK.
- Use
common sense, if it sounds to good to be true, it is probably
a SCAM.
